The two-year-old murder case of Namdhari leader Avtar Singh Tari has been reopened by the police following a High Court petition by Gurmukh Singh, the son of the deceased. He was shot dead in April 2011 by unidentified youth near Bhaini Sahib with multiple bullet injuries on his thighs, chest, stomach and feet.

On Tuesday, the Ludhiana police called Thakur Dilip Singh, guru of one sect of Namdharis, for questioning. He had also been called a few days back. Tuesday’s question-answer session continued for about three hours at Police Lines and scores of his followers remained outside to support him.

Thakur Dilip Singh was named earlier in this case but no proof had been found against him. Now again he was being questioned, said Namdhari Gurmeet Singh, follower of Thakur Dilip Singh.

DCP Harsh Bansal and ADCP Nilambri Jagdale questioned Thakur Dilip Singh. Confirming the development,Nilambri said,“We have to sent our report to the High Court by May 30. Hence, the questioning was done. Based on our questioning,we will be presenting our version in the court.”
