Sukhbir reviews development projects

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal Friday approved the revised Master Plan for Amritsar,which aims to put the holy city at par with any international city.

Sukhbir who was here on a day long visit alongwith principal secretaries of all development related departments visited the possible sites to plan future expansion of the roads besides reviewing the ongoing works. He also reviewed the projects taken up by various departments and the problems being faced by them in timely execution of the projects.

Sukhbir was in for a shock when he got to know that Amritsar Improvement Trust and Municipal Corporation have laid sewerage lines despite the fact sewerage lines had already been laid under Japan project. Lambasting the officials for wasting crores ODF rupees,Sukhbir said: “We are accountable for every single penny being spent from taxpayers’. We need to make officers accountable for such lax approach”.

He also batted for a centralised control room for operation and maintenance of all tube wells. Expressing concern over 40 overhead reservoirs lying unused and 383 tube wells directly pumping drinking water to the houses,Sukhbir said “criminal wastage of electricity on four fold increase in tube wells can not be justified”.

He said the state government was committed for facelift of Amritsar and adjoining areas with the completion of all development projects to be executed at the cost of Rs 1,668 crore in next two years. He said he will personally review the every project to ensure that officials follow the deadline. He also expressed concern over tardy execution of Sewerage Treatment Plant in North-South area and asked for immediate steps to complete the projects.

Laying the foundation stone of covering of Ganda Nullah near Lahori Gate,he said that the first three phases of covering the nullah had provided great relief to citizens of Amritsar.

Expressing concern over delay in operationlisation of heritage village in GNDU village,he asked PIDB to seek bids for the project management as 85 per cent construction work was already completed.
