Srinagar lashed by rains,minimum temperature dip further

Moderate to heavy rains lashed Kashmir this morning with temperature further dipping in hilly ares as Gulmarg witnessed an unusually cold night in summer.

Moderate to heavy rains lashed Kashmir this morning with temperature further dipping in hilly ares as famous hill resort of Gulmarg in the state witnessed an unusually cold night in the month of summer.

Gulmarg,60 kms from here,which received a rainfall of 9.4 mm of rains till 0830 hours,recorded a lowest minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius today,Met office said.

Srinagar,summer capital of the state,recorded a low of 9.9 degrees Celsius – four degrees below normal,following rains overnight.

Qazigund,which is situated on Srinagar-Jammu national highway,recorded the highest rainfall of 23.2 mm followed by Kokernag (8.2 mm),Pahalgam (6.6 mm),Srinagar (5.2 mm) and Kupwara (2.5 mm).

However,there was no respite from sweltering heat for people of Jammu as the minimum temperature showed an upward trend. The city recorded a low of 25.6 degrees Celsius today against 24.6 deg C yesterday.

Bhaderwah,Banihal and Batote in Jammu received some rainfall. The lowest minimum temperature in Jammu region was recorded in Bhaderwah which reported 12.2 mm of rainfall at 3 degrees Celsius this morning.

Leh in frontier region of Ladakh which received 0.2 mm of rainfall had recorded the minimum temperature of 4.6 degrees Celsius.

Weathermen forecast more rains for the next few days.

“Rains and thunderstorms are expected in a few places in Kashmir valley and in some isolated areas of Jammu “,a Met spokesman said.
