Special Home Secy meets DGPs of Naxal-hit states

Home Ministry's Special Secretary (Internal Security) Raman Srivastava will chair a meeting of Directors General of Police of Naxal-hit states.

Home Ministry’s Special Secretary (Internal Security) Raman Srivastava will chair a meeting of Directors General of Police of Maharashtra,Andhra Pradesh,Chhattisgarh and Orissa on Thursday to discuss the Naxal situation in these states.

The meeting will also discuss the follow-up action that needs to be taken on the decisions taken at the meeting of the Chief Ministers of the Naxal-affected states on January 7.

On January 31,Home Minister P Chidambaram,while visiting the Naxal-affected state of Jharkhand,had said that there was no scope in a democracy for any individual or group to take to arms and all armed resistance will have to be met with force.

Chidambaram was in Ranchi to conduct an extensive review of the security situation in Jharkhand with the officials of the state Government.

He had added that militants who lay down their arms and surrender will be rehabilitated according to government policy.

“Armed rebellion has no place in a democracy. It will be met with resolute action,” Chidambaram had said adding that the fight against Naxalites is going to be a long struggle. It will take time.”
