Rajouri: Students hold V-C hostage

The students have demanded removal of Registrar Rashid Choudhary for alleged embezzlement of Rs 19.66 lakh given by Union Ministry for Tribal Affairs for disbursement as scholarship to students.

At least 300 employees of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) in Rajouri, including V-C Irshad Ahmed Hamal, were held hostage on campus Wednesday night by students protesting the alleged embezzlement of their scholarship money by a senior varsity official. They were allowed to leave early Thursday morning after meetings between students, the V-C and district administration.

The students have demanded removal of Registrar Rashid Choudhary for alleged embezzlement of Rs 19.66 lakh given by Union Ministry for Tribal Affairs for disbursement as scholarship to students, mostly Paharis.

While Rajouri DC Deepti Uppal refused to comment, V-C Himal said police was probing the matter.
