PRP workers attack news channel in Hyderabad

The PRP alleged that the channel is airing stories with an intention to damage the image of Chiranjeevi.

Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) workers here today attacked ABN Andhra Jyothy,a private news channel,for allegedly airing news stories against the party and its chief Chiranjeevi a veteran Telugu matinee idol.

The party alleged that the channel is airing stories with an intention to damage the image of Chiranjeevi and the PRP. The party has 18 MLAs in the 294-member State Assembly.

City police arrested 24 of the PRP workers in this connection under various Sections of IPC.

Journalist unions and political leaders cutting across party lines condemned the attack.

Some of the party workers staged a sit-in in front of the channel office protesting the news stories. Glass panes of the office were damaged during the scuffle when the party workers tried to barge into the channel office. Some of the channel employees sustained minor injuries,Banjara Hills ACP R Ravindra Reddy said.

The channel in its story,said the PRP has become financially weak and was not able to organise protests against Government failures. The channel defended that they aired stories based on the inputs given by some of the PRP leaders.

The channel said that the story was based on the version of the official spokesperson of the PRP Vasireddy Padma.

Later,employees of Andhra Jyothy staged a rally condemning the party workers attack on the channel office.
