Former President A P J Abdul Kalam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the funeral of former President A P J Abdul Kalam in Rameswaram Thursday.

“The Prime Minister is coming,” Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu told reporters at the Palam technical area minutes before his body was flown to Madurai by a special aircraft. Naidu and Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar accompanied the body.

Some chief ministers, including Kerala’s Oommen Chandy, are also set to attend the funeral.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will attend the funeral along with Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and Congress’s leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.
