After intervention of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry,Colors Channel Monday decided to change the name of its serial Gurbani,scheduled to debut on Monday night,to Bani. The ministry intervened after Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) complained that Gurbani is the second name of Guru Granth Sahib and that naming a serial and a character by that name was an insult to Sikhism. The SGPC had also lodged a complaint against the serials producer and main actor with the Amritsar Police,on Monday. Simultaneously,SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar had urged Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari,to ensure that name of the serial was changed. Gurbani is the composition of Sikh gurus in Guru Granth Sahib,which is revered as a living guru by Sikhs. The serial focuses on plight of deserted Punjabi wives of NRI husbands through its character named Gurbani,the character will continue to be referred as Gurbani in the serial.
