Never sought debate on ‘secular’, ‘socialist’ words in Preamble: Ravi Shankar Prasad

Prasad also asked Scindia to withdraw his statement.

Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad on Friday said he had never sought a debate on the words ‘secular’ and ‘socialist’ in the Constitution’s preamble — as claimed by Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia in the House. Prasad also asked Scindia to withdraw his statement.

“What I had said in the press conference was that the Congress should debate whether Jawaharlal Nehru was secular or not as he and leaders like Maulana Azad and Sardar Patel did not include the word ‘secular’ in the Constitution,” Prasad said.
