NCP wants Sharad Pawar as next PM

Sharad Pawar ostensibly played down the supporters vision saying it all centred around the number game in parliamentary democracy.

Even as the NCP leaders openly spoke about his Prime Ministerial prospects, the party president Sharad Pawar ostensibly played down the supporters vision saying it all centred around the number game in parliamentary democracy.

But,addressing a public rally at Shirur, around 60 km from Pune,he nevertheless gave an indication of backtracking on his earlier much publicized announcement that he would not be seeking a Lok Sabha seat in the next elections.

“I am still of the opinion that I should become a Rajya Sabha member being an elder politician. However, the party workers are insisting that I should enter the Lok Sabha from the reconstituted Shirur constituency,Pawar whose daughter Supriya Sule, will now be the NCP candidate from his home constituency of neighbouring Baramati,” said.

Deferring the expected announcement on his candidature from Shirur parliamentary constituency in the district,Pawar said a final decision on his candidature and constituency would be taken at the party’s Western Maharashtra unit on February 6.

Earlier,Dilip Valse Patil,Maharashtra Finance Minister in his speech recalled the names of Chandrashekhar,Indrakumar Gujral and Deve Gowda who,he said, became the Prime Minister without the backing of sufficient number of their respective party MPs.

“We want a mature and experienced leader like Pawar to enter Lok Sabha and become PM,” Patil asserted. Talking to reporters later,Pawar said to become PM it was necessary to muster sufficient numerical strength in the house.
