Mizoram Police arrested two men from south Assam’s Karimganj and Silchar towns for carrying heroin worth Rs 2.7 lakhs as they returned from the international border with Myanmar late on Monday night.
A police officer in Champhai town identified the duo as 22-year-old Bulbul from Silchar’s Bagha area and 35-year-old Jonynul Abdin from Karimganj town.

The duo were returning from the border crossing around 9.30 pm on Monday in a maxicab when they were checked by plain-clothes policemen at Zokhawthar village. The policemen found 78 grams of heroin hidden inside soap boxes.
Bulbul tried to evade arrest during the search but an Assam Rifles jawan nearby apprehended him, an officer said, adding the heroin was likely being trafficked into south Assam.
