A comparison of electricity rates across the country.

The Kejriwal government in Delhi has promised to slash electricity tariffs by 50 per cent in the state.

DELHI
*For domestic users, the lowest slab (consumption up to 200 units) is Rs 2.8 per unit, and the highest (above 1,200 units) is Rs 8.75 per unit.

UTTAR PRADESH
*For metered rural users, a fixed charge of Rs 50 per unit per month, and energy charge of Rs 2.20 per unit.
* For urban domestic users, fixed charge of Rs 75 per unit per month, and 4 slabs of energy charge — the lowest Rs 4 per unit for load up to 150 units; the highest Rs 5.50 per unit for load of above 500 units.

GUJARAT
*In urban areas, the lowest slab is Rs 3.15 per unit, and the highest Rs 5.20 per unit.
* In rural areas, the lowest slab is Rs 2.75 per unit, and the highest is Rs 4.90 per unit.

MAHARASHTRA
* Power tariff for residential users in the state (except for Mumbai) is Rs 4.16 per unit for the lowest slab, which is consumption up to 100 units. For the highest slab (consumption above 1,000 units), the rate is Rs 11.38/unit.

MIZORAM
* For BPL households, a fixed charge of Rs 10/connection/month with energy charge of Rs 1.20 per unit for up to 15 units (lowest slab) and Rs 2.10 per unit for above 30 units (highest slab).
*For APL households, the lowest slab (up to 50 units) has a fixed charge of
Rs 25/connection/month and an energy charge of Rs 2.10 per unit. The highest slab (above 200 units) has a fixed charge of Rs 25/connection/month and energy charge of Rs 4.50 per unit.

KARNATAKA
* For domestic consumers in urban areas, the rates begin from Rs 2.70 per unit (up to 30 units) and go up to Rs 6.25 per unit (above 200 units) per month.
* For domestic consumers in rural areas, the rates begin from Rs 2.60 per unit (up to 30 units) and go up to Rs 5.75 per unit (above 200 units) per month.

ANDHRA & TELANGANA
* Tariffs in both states are the same as per agreements made prior to bifurcation. For domestic users, the rates begin from Rs 1.45 per unit (up to 50 units) and go up to Rs 8.38 per unit (above 500 units).

KERALA
* Tariffs begin from Rs 1.5 per unit (for consumption up to 40 units) and go up to Rs 7.5 per unit (for consumers above 500 units) in a month.

ASSAM
*The standard rate is Rs 7.03 a unit. For the lowest slab (below 30 unit/month), it is Rs 2.79 per unit. For the highest (above 240 units), it’s Rs 7.25 per unit.

ORISSA
*Domestic consumers have to pay Rs 2.30 per unit in the below-50-unit slab and Rs 5.40 per unit for consuming 400 or more units a month.

PUNJAB
*There is a single domestic usage category, the rates of which are Rs 4.56 per unit in the lowest slab, and Rs 6.44 per unit in the highest.

MADHYA PRADESH
* In urban areas, per unit tariff is Rs 4.95, while in rural areas, it’s Rs 4.85.
*The highest tariff in urban areas is Rs 6 per unit while the lowest tariff in rural areas is Rs 3.30.
