Reiterating his stand over the report on drugs allegedly submitted to the government by former DGP Shashi Kant,Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday said he was not aware of any such report and have never seen it.
In May,Kant had claimed he had sent a report to current Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini over a year ago,naming 185 jail officials,top 10 leaders and businessmen who were running the drug mafia in the state. He also said,since the report was sent through proper officials channels,a copy must be lying with the state home department,led by Sukhbir. The report was submitted by Kant when he was ADGP (Intelligence).
Till date I have not received or seen any such report on drugs in Punjab with names of political and influential personalities in it, said Sukhbir.
While applauding the special drive against drugs undertaken by the police,Sukhbir said the drive was showing results and will continue till he menace was eliminated from Punjab.
Commenting on leaders or influential personalities involved in drug peddling,Sukhbir said: No matter how influential that person is,any political person or otherwise involved in drugs will not be spared.
When contacted,Kant said: I submitted the report around six years ago to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. Not only submitted it but also held a very detailed discussion on it with him. At that time I was with the Intelligence branch. But no action was taken.
Sewerage plant inaugurated
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Tuesday inaugurated the first sewerage treatment plant in Moga worth Rs 27 crore. Earlier,he presided over the inauguration of the tehsil complex worth Rs 4.45 crore at Baghapurana. Samalsar will now be a sub-tehsil under Baghapurana sub-division. Moreover,while the Baghapurana Nagar Council will grant of Rs 15 crore for upgrading its sewerage system,another Rs 75 lakh will be spent on the development of the villages.
No threat of terrorism revival
FEROZEPUR,MOGA: Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday said there was no threat of the revival of terrorism in Punjab and the state will not allow any terrorist module to lift its ugly face again.
Sukhbir,while addressing mediapersons here after foundation of several development projects,said: The Punjab Police has recently foiled several Pakistan-trained militant modules and arrested the main kingpins from different parts of the state. The police were doing its duty more vigilantly than Central agencies,which have failed to foil the nefarious designs of militants.
In Moga,while praising the police,Sukhbir said: No terrorism is strong and bold enough to enter Punjab with the kind of vigil being kept by the police. We are further strengthening the system. But even now,we will not allow even a single terror element to enter Punjab. ENS
