A judicial magistrate in Pathanamthitta on Thursday sentenced solar project scam accused Saritha S Nair and her partner Biju Radhakrishan to three years of imprisonment in one of the several cases registered against them. Besides, a fine of Rs 1.19 crore has also been imposed on the couple.
In this case, complainant K Baburaj, had alleged that the two had pocketed Rs 1.19 crore from him promising to make him the managing director of a solar firm. For charges of of cheating and conspiracy, Radhakrishnan has to pay a fine of Rs 75 lakh, while Nair will have to cough up Rs 45 lakh.

The duo has also been charged with several criminal cases of cheating after investors, who had pumped in money in the solar energy projects mooted by the two, lost money.
While Radhakrishnan is already serving an imprisonment after a sessions court convicted him in a case pertaining to the murder of his wife Rashmi, Nair secured a bail from the court after the verdict.
Scores of cheating cases are pending against them in various courts in Kerala. However, in a few incidents Nair got also had out-of-court settlement with investors who had lost money in the solar project scam.
The scam had hit headlines in 2013. Three close aides of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy lost their job for their involvement in the scam and links with the con woman. Nair had revealed that several senior Congress leaders, including ministers, had sexually exploited her several times.
