The 300-km long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the only surface link between the Valley and the rest of the country, reopened on Saturday after snow was cleared between Banihal and Qazigund.
The vehicular traffic was resumed from Jammu to Srinagar, police said, adding later vehicles from both the sides were allowed to move on the highway.
The authorities had earlier pressed men and machines for snow clearance between Qazigund and Banihal sector after weather improved, they said.
The highway was closed since yesterday morning following snowfall making the road slippery.
About 500 vehicles, including over 100 carriers, were stranded at different points on the arterial road.
The traffic authorities have also allowed movement of vehicles on the highway from capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu this afternoon, they said.
