Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said the government is contemplating launching a comprehensive programme for fast-paced development of dry and arid regions in the state.
“There is a need to work out an integrated development plan for Kandi areas (dry and arid regions) to ensure upgrade of basic amenities on fast track,” he said while reviewing plans at district development board meetings in Kathua and Sambha yesterday.
Abdullah said the Planning and Development department has been directed to come up with an effective and feasible Kandi Development Programme.
He also asked officers to join works under National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) programme with the other ongoing schemes to ensure integrated development of the area.
Directing district administrations to not to create any liabilities in future,he said,”Henceforth,the government will not approve any unauthorised expenditures made on works launched without proper administrative approval.”
Expressing satisfaction over the pace of works under district plans,Abdullah said by the end of this fiscal,the financial and physical targets will be achieved in full.
