A system to monitor Tsunami has been put in place by India at an expenditure of Rs 115 crores,within four years after a devastating Tsunami hit Indian shores.
The Indian Tsunami Warning System comprises various real time monitoring networks,seismic monitoring network,bottom pressure recorders,tide gauges etc to monitor tsunami waves, Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal said in reply to a question in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The system could issue warnings on detection of earthquake parameters,estimation of travel time and run up height of tsunami and confirming tsunami by monitoring sea level.
