Himachal braces for heavy rainfall
Dharamsala: Heavy rainfall lashed many parts of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday with the MeT office predicting torrential downpours at isolated places in the state over the coming 48 hours. Dharamsala was the wettest place in the state with 132mm rainfall. Dharampur in Solan district recorded showers of 31mm followed by Bangana (15mm),Shimla (10mm),Mandi (8mm) and Solan (6mm). According to local weather officials,heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in the state over the coming 48 hours.
Man attacked with weapon,dies
Amritsar: A man was allegedly attacked by two unknown persons with a sharp-edged weapon resulting in his death in Dadu Jodh village in Amritsar district on Saturday night. A case of murder was registered on the complaint of deceased Dilbag Singhs wife in Batala police district. Batala SSP Tulsi Ram said that circumstantial evidence does not point to any outsiders entering the place. The brother of the deceased was found heavily drunk when police reached there yesterday night, the SSP said.
Man trying to flee police custody dies
CHANDIGARH: A Rohtak resident succumbed to injuries that he had sustained while attempting to escape from police custody on July 31. Rohtak police had detained Khairari resident Dharampal on charges of maltreating and harassing his wife. While they were bringing him to the police station in an auto-rickshaw,he jumped out and sustained severe injuries. The police got him admitted in the hospital,where he succumbed to injuries late evening yesterday. The post mortem examination was conducted on Sunday at Rohtaks PGIMS.
Two-year-old eaten by dogs
Ludhiana (Machhiwara): A two-year-old was reportedly eaten by a pack of wild dogs in Dholanwal village here on Sunday. Villagers claimed that despite repeated complaints to the administration to shift the burial ground of animals,located on periphery of the village,no one paid heed. Gaganpreet Singh was playing oustide his home when a villager heard dogs fighting over the child’s body parts. The dogs were chased away by the villagers.
