The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday issued notices to the CBI asking it to explain as to why Haryana MLA O P Jain’s arrest should not be stayed. Jain, the Panipat MLA,has been charged with abetment to suicide following the death of the Kambopura village sarpanch.

After a lower court in Panchkula rejected his anticipatory bail application,Jain moved the High Court on Monday and sought bail on the ground that he had no involvement in sarpanch Karam Singh’s suicide. The CBI has been directed to explain as to why his arrest should not be stayed.

The anticipatory bail will now come up for hearing on September 13.

Jain’s counsel, senior lawyer Bipan Ghai, further submitted that the Haryana legislator has been co-operating with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation from the start.
