Govt to amend Act for project affected to bring in gender equality

The government hopes to pass the bill in the ongoing budget session as all political parties have supported the reforms.

Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation Patangrao Kadam Monday introduced a bill to amend the Maharashtra Project Affected Persons Rehabilitation Act,1999,that makes women beneficiaries for compensation.

The government hopes to pass the bill in the ongoing budget session as all political parties have supported the reforms.

The state proposes to add “or sister” after the words “every brother” and incorporate “daughter or daughters of each deceased brother” in “sons or sons of any deceased brother all together as one unit”.

The minister said,“The act in practise did not consider women as beneficiaries.” Through the amendment,the government wants to bring in gender equality.
