Five civilians were injured when a grenade exploded near the debris of the house where an encounter between militants and security forces took place in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday.
A police spokesperson said that five persons were injured, due to an explosion at the encounter site in Heff, Shirmal village in Shopian. “They were injured while clearing the debris,” he said.
The spokesperson said that after conclusion of operation on Wednesday, locals were advised not to go to the encounter site. “Announcements were made yesterday as well as today morning in local mosque. However, people poured in and tried to clear debris and did not pay heed to the announcements,” he said.
Two Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed and four army men were injured in the encounter which concluded late Wednesday evening. An army officer was among the injured personnel.
