DU student commits suicide in Delhi

A 22-year-old Delhi University student was found hanging in her hostel room in north Delhi.

A 22-year-old Delhi University student was found hanging in her hostel room in north Delhi and a suicide note was recovered from there,police said.

The victim has been identified as Ritveja Singh,a third year degree student of Kirori Mal College,and she was found hanging in a private hostel in Outram Lane of Mukherjee Nagar this morning.

The body was in a decomposed state with police suggesting that she could have committed suicide at least two days ago.

“This morning,some students in the hostel noticed a foul smell emanating from Ritveja’s room. They immediately informed their warden,who in turn informed the police,” a senior police official said. Ritveja hailed from Patna in Bihar.

Police rushed to hostel to find that the door of the room was locked from inside and they broke open it only to find the girl hanging from the ceiling fan.

“The body had started decomposing,” the official said.

A suicide note was recovered from the room in which the victim claimed that she was taking the extreme step as nobody liked.

Hostel residents told police that Ritveja largely kept to herself.

Her father A K Singh has been informed about the incident.
