Delhi’s battered baby back on ventilator

Two-year-old remains critical,suffers from severe infection.

Battered two-year-old Falak,who is extremely critical,has shown no signs of improvement and is back on ventilator at the AIIMS trauma centre in Delhi.

“She is not breathing properly. That is why we had to put her back on the ventilator on the night of February 4. The infection in her body and improper fluid movement are not allowing us to keep her off the ventilator. She is critical but stable,” Dr Deepak Agarwal,neurosurgeon with the hospital,said.

Falak was brought to the AIIMS trauma centre on January 18 with severe head injury,broken arms,bite marks all over her body and cheeks branded with hot iron.

Doctors have already conducted three life saving surgeries on her from the day of her admission. More surgeries are required to be conducted but these have been kept on hold till the infection recedes,he said.

“We are conducting culture reports everyday to see the level of infection present in her body. Once the reports come negative,we are assured she is responding positively to the treatment,” Dr Agarwal said.

Forensic analysts are yet to confirm the marks on her body are that of human teeth.

“The dental department too has been roped in for it. They are helping in the process,” a forensic analyst with AIIMS said.

Dr Agarwal said Falak will have to live with the tracheotomy conducted on her for some time even after she has fully recovered.
