In the backdrop of the CBI's eport on Shopian case,Samajwadi Party in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday alleged that the agency has lost its credibility as it was working to cover up "heinous crimes" of politicians and bureaucrats in the country. "The CBI has become a tool in the hands of the central government. It is working as an agency to cover up heinous crimes of the politicians and bureaucrats and has thus lost its credibility," party state president Sheikh Abdul Rehman told reporters here. He said the Shopian case was handed over to the agency for an impartial probe. "The role of the CBI was not only suspicious, but at the behest of the Central government it made an abortive attempt to cover up this serious issue," he said. The CBI had on December 14 given a clean chit to four police officials in the mysterious Shopian case. It said two women who were alleged to have been raped and murdered had actually died due to drowning and has indicted 14 people including doctors and lawyers for allegedly fabricating evidence. Rehman criticised the employment policy announced by the state government on December 5,saying "the conditions for the stipend of Rs 500 to Rs 1100 were laid in such a manner that 90 per cent of the unemployed will neither get the stipend nor the jobs".
