When the author asked Ummer's schoolmates whether they would want to be like Lt. Ummer Fayaz, they said no. ‘’Ma’am he joined the army, the society here does not accept him and some who don’t even consider him a Kashmiri.’’
Following the information, security personnel launched a cordon and search operation in the Khudpora area of Shopian, police official said. He added said the search operation turned into an encounter as militants opened fire.

The Meteorological Department here has forecast wet weather for the next two days. Met Department official said that there are reports of snowfall in higher reaches of Kashmir, including in Peer Ki Gali on the Mughal Road in Shopian, Sonmarg, Amarnath Shrine, Razdan Pass, Sadhna Top and Gurez.
