BSF officers move HC against govt,seniors

Sixty-six BSF officers have petitioned the Delhi High Court against the Union Home Ministry and IPS officers who make up the top brass of the force,saying they are being deprived of financial benefits and promotion opportunities. On August 14,the court issued notices to the ministry and BSF headquarters on the petition.

The plea has been filed by general cadre officers holding ranks of deputy inspector generals,commandants,deputy commandants and second-in-command. They said they were facing “acute stagnation” and were being denied financial benefits enjoyed by IPS officers deputed to senior ranks in the force like DIG and IG.

“Despite the general duty group ‘A’ officers dedicating their life in field areas and sacrificing their personal lives… (they) are being deprived of even those financial benefits and privileges which other group ‘A’ officers are enjoying,” the plea says. The IPS officers holding important posts,it adds,“have failed to take adequate steps for career progression of the cadre officers”.

The BSF officials say they are also not being extended benefits of “non-functional financial upgradation” approved in 2009.
