Congress hatching conspiracies on excise concessions: SAD

CHANDIGARH: Reacting to Punjab Congress’ statement on the alleged miserable condition of furnace industry in Mandi Gobindgarh,the SAD on Sunday dubbed it as “mischievous and politically motivated”. In a statement,party spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said: “If Congress had prior information that industry in Mandi Gobindgarh was in severe distress,why did PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa and Leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar not include it in their memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister recently to demand excise concessions for six border districts?” “Today’s statement has exposed the criminal conspiracy of Congress. It had opposed the Punjab CM’s efforts of getting excise concessions for the whole state by taking an ill thought out and illogical view and at the same time,is trying to take political mileage by raking up the issue of the plight of Gobindgarh industry,” he added.

Punjab boards for maize,cotton,litchi

CHANDIGARH: To promote cultivation of maize and cotton as alternate crops besides planting litchi fruit under the state’s ambitious agriculture diversification programme,the Punjab government on Sunday constituted three development boards to motivate the farmers to grow these crops and fruit. The chief minister will head the three boards.

Civil surgeons asked not to leave stations

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government on Sunday directed all senior medical officers and civil surgeons not to leave their stations of posting without prior permission of their seniors. The instructions were issued by Health Minister Madan Mohan Mittal after he toured 13 districts. Mittal said during his tour,some issues had come to his notice,and he has directed health officials to solve them on priority. “For instance,generator sets at government hospitals are not properly utilised. Moreover,fire fighting units should also be made operational,” Mittal said.

Punjab approves 9 new road projects

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government on Sunday approved nine new road projects worth Rs 1,400 crore. “The government has conducted a special survey,under which,these nine road projects were identified. These included Barnala-Mansa-Sardulgarh-Sirsa Road,Ratiya- Boha- Budhlada- Bhikhi Road,Mukerian-Gurdaspur Road,Dharamkot-Zira- Ferozepur Road,Phillaur- Naggar-Rahon Road,Kapurthala-Tarn Taran- Chhabal- Attari Road,Chandigarh-Landran- Chunni-Sirhind Road,Rampura-Maur-Talwandi Sabo-Raman Mandi and Shri Mukatsar sahib-Malout Road.

LLB course to begin at NIILM university soon

CHANDIGARH: The NIILM University in Kaithal will soon introduce LLB courses,Haryana Public Works (Building and Roads) Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said on Sunday. Moreover,the Hisar-Chandigarh road will be four-laned and approval has already been sought from the Centre in this regard,he added.

Midday meal: Kitchen capacity increased

CHANDIGARH: To ensure hygiene midday meal is provided to children,the Haryana government on Sunday decided to increase the capacity of kitchens and stores under the scheme. “The scheme is being implemented efficiently in schools of Haryana and children are being provided with a balanced diet. As many as 16 dishes have been included in the menu now,while initially,it was only two or three dishes,” Education and Women and Child Development Minister Geeta Bhukkal said.
