‘Include Punjab border districts in industrial package’

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa will meet Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma on July 8 to demand that if the Centre was planning to extend tax sops to neighbouring hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand,the six border districts of Punjab — including his home district Gurdaspur — be included in the package. “The Union minister has given in-principle nod to the proposal but we will be meeting him with a delegation of Punjab MLAs and MPs to make the demand,” Bajwa said on Sunday.

Sirsa-Ludhiana train likely to be regular

CHANDIGARH: The special passenger train (04741-04742),which had run between Sirsa and Ludhiana from from April 30 to June 30,will soon become a regular train. Sirsa MP Dr Ashok Tanwar said: “It was a long standing demand of Sirsa residents that the train be made a regular one. During my meeting with Railway Minister Mallikarjun Khadge,the minister has accepted my demand. This train will halt at Jakhod Kheda,Mandi Adampur,Bhathu,Ding,Suchan Kotli and Bajekan stations.”

395 Haryana people missing in U’khand

CHANDIGARH: While 999 people from various parts of the state have so far been rescued from flood-hit Uttarakhand,at least 395 are still missing,the government said on Sunday. “Around 22 people were reported missing today,taking the numbers of such people to 395,” an official spokesperson said.

Haryana adopts 25 Uttarakhand villages

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has adopted 25 flood-affected villages in Uttarakhand. It will reconstruct the 25 villages and rehabilitate the villagers,Chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said during his visit to senior Congress leader Tejender Pal Maan’s residence on Sunday. Maan’s wife Pushpa and two relatives had gone to Kedarnath on pilgrimage,but never returned.
