Bihar: JD-U MLA Anant Singh arrested in kidnapping case

During the search at his Patna residence, police found six empty magazines and blood-soaked clothes.

Controversial JD(U) MLA from Mokama, Anant Singh, was arrested in Patna on Wednesday in connection with a 2014 kidnapping and extortion case filed in Bihita.

The arrest took place hours after police questioned him and searched his residences in Patna and Barh in connection with another abduction and murder case that took place last week.

During the search at his Patna residence, police found six empty magazines and blood-soaked clothes. An FIR has been lodged against the MLA under Arms Act. Anant Singh, however, has refuted all the and called them politically motivated.

Last week, police had arrested two of his close aides — Bhushan and Ghanshyam— in connection with the murder of one Putus Yadav who was abducted along with three others in Barh. The body of Putus was found on June 18 near Ladma in Barh, the ancestral village of the JD(U) MLA. Among the three persons who were abducted, two managed to escape, while one was rescued by the police.

J S Rana, who was Patna SSP till Tuesday and was leading the probe, said the MLA’s name cropped up during the investigation. On Monday, the police arrested four associates of one Pratap, who was named in the FIR but had been evading arrest. One of them reportedly told the police that he had heard MLA Singh giving instruction to one of his shooters about Putus Yadav.

Rana has now been transferred to East Champaran. The opposition has questioned his sudden transfer.
