Slamming the SAD-BJP government for allegedly failing to deliver on poll promises, state Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa Tuesday said the government had not fulfilled even a single promise it had made in its election manifesto.
Speaking to mediapersons after chairing a workshop of party workers in Majha region here,Bajwa also trained his guns on SAD for failing to make Punjab a power surplus state by 2010. In 2007,Sukhbir Badal had promised that Punjab will be power surplus by 2010 and urban and rural areas will get round-the-clock power supply. He had also said that rest of the power will be exported to Pakistan, Bajwa said, adding that the reality was that the government could not even dedicate the 660-MW power plant in Talwandi Sabo to the people despite promising that the same would be done on Baisakhi.
Claiming that Sterling Limited, the promoter company of the plant, had stated that it was forced to stop work due to non-conducive atmosphere and bureaucratic wrangling,Bajwa said: The allegations are serious and will dissuade investors from coming to Punjab.
He added that the project came to a standstill at a time when the company had already spent Rs 7,000 crore out of the Rs 10,000 crore estimated for the plant. It was indicative of total collapse of the SAD-BJP government,Bajwa added.
On the recent power tariff hike,he said: There has been a 80 per cent hike in power rates in the last six years. The high tariff has proved to be a death knell for small scale industries. While the knitwear industry in Ludhiana has decided its base to Himachal Pradesh, major industries have already shifted to Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Speaking on the governments shagun scheme and unemployment allowance,Bajwa dared the Badals to provide details of a single unemployed individual who had been given Rs 1,000 as allowance. Badals do not have money to fulfil poll promises, but they have money to buy a helicopter worth Rs 38 crore and spend Rs 5 to 7 crore on the Goa chintan shivir, he added.
