Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today dared state Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa to get the compensation amount paid to victims of floods increased from the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre.
Addressing a gathering during his visit in flood-affected areas of Muktsar district,Badal said: Rather than shedding crocodile tears over this,Congress leaders, including Bajwa, should take up with the Union government the case of enhancing the meager compensation given to victims of natural tragedy… It is high time that all parties come together to extend a helping hand to the flood victims, but as usual, the Congress leadership has vitiated the atmosphere in Punjab for their vested interests.
Soliciting active support of the people for constructing drains as per the natural flow of water, the chief minister said this will help check waterlogging more effectively. People must rise above their personal considerations and vested interests and cooperate with the government for constructing the drains in a fair manner, even if it has to pass through their land, said Badal.
