The ‘know your army’ exhibitions have helped the Indian Army in attracting youths to join the forces,General Officer Commanding,Maharashtra,Gujarat and Goa Area,Lt Gen Sanjiv Chopra said today.
The army noticed a rise of 30 to 40 per cent in the number of youths enrolling in the army last year which was attributable to the exhibitions held by the army at different places which display various army equipment,armament,tanks among others,he said.
The static display of army equipments,tanks and bridges motivate the youths to opt for career in the army,he told reporters on the sidelines of ‘Know Your Army’ exhibition organised here.
Lt Gen Chopra said that after the 26/11,there has been a greater amount of co-ordination among the civic administration,security agencies and the state government and army was extending training facilities to local security forces in combating terror,bomb detection and counter terror methods and there are lot of interactions to ensure preparedness.
He also informed that the Army has taken up modernisation in a big way and was improving its capabilities by procuring helicopters,night vision gadgets,tanks and other armoury.
The Commanding officer said the Army was increasing its intake capacity at NDA,Khadakwasla to 250 and also setting up a new centre at Gaya.
