The area DGP has asked police commissioners and superintendents of police in all district to increase vigilance.
Reacting to state Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki’s call to its women wing to conduct “janata raids” (public raids) at liquor and gambling dens all over the state, Director General of Police has gone into action, asking police commissioners and superintendents of police in all district to increase vigilance.
In a circular dispatched to all police commissioner and district police chiefs, he said: “If janata raids succeed in your area, it would amount to your failure. So, take appropriate action and keep watch in your area”.
It is an open secret that liquor is available in the state despite prohibition laws in force. The job of enforcing the ban is with the police.
Solanki had asked its women workers to raid the liquor and gambling dens because these were destroying the families financially and healthwise and adversely affecting the women members of the families whose men were involved in drinking and gambling.
