A principal of a government school in Panna tried to commit suicide after accusing district collector R K Mishra of sexual harassment. The victim consumed phenyl inside the school premises, after which she was rushed to the local government hospital.

The victim alleged that the collector once called her to his bungalow at night and since then he has been pressuring her often. Panna Superintendant of Police I P Arjaria told The Indian Express that the victim has accused the collector of sexually exploiting her. He said the charges leveled by her are being probed, but did not clarify whether an FIR has been lodged so far.

Congress spokesman K K Mishra said the collector should be immediately arrested and questioned the local police for going slow in the matter. “It is surprising that no FIR has been lodged yet.” Despite repeated attempts the collector did not respond. He is reported to have dismissed the allegations as politically and administratively motivated, while calling the victim mentally unstable.
