Close the heels of alleged sexual harassment of a British national by a Punjab policemen on board Shaheed Express last month, two Army jawans allegedly in an inebriated state misbehaved with as many as three woman on board Sampark Kranti Express on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday in Pathankot district.

The duo, identified as Babu Lal, a resident of Mandola in Mahindergarh and Naveen Kumar, a resident of Rohtak, posted in Jammu, were taken into custody in Ludhiana by the GRP. They were sent to Pathankot in the early hours in another train where they were arrested by GRP Pathankot. A case was registered under sections 356 (Assault or criminal force in attempt to commit theft of property carried by a person) and section 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of Indian Penal Code, said Pathankot GRP SHO Davinder Singh Randhawa.

He said the case was registered on the complaint of a woman from Mumbai who alleged that, in a drunken state, the Army jawans misbehaved with her, tried to snatch her phone and threatened to throw her out of the moving train.

Besides the complainant, the jawans reportedly misbehaved with a girl and subsequently with her mother .

Randhawa said the incident took place at about 12.30 am on Thursday.
