2 injured in hit-and-run case involving ‘high profile’ driver

The vehicle was spotted abandoned near Millat Nagar in Andheri.

In a hit-and-run case,a 55-year-old woman and driver were injured when a vehicle allegedly being driven by a “high profile” person rammed into an auto-rickshaw in suburban Andheri,police said on Sunday.

According to police,a Hummer make vehicle hit the auto-rickshaw coming from opposite direction but in a wrong route at Four Bungalow area in the wee hours of Saturday,injuring passenger Rajshree Aangane and driver Gyan Chavan.

Aangane was admitted in the civic-run Cooper hospital while the driver was given first aid treatment. The front portion of the auto-rickshaw was damaged.

However,the person on the wheels of the vehicle sped away from the scene after which a constable patrolling the area chased it. The vehicle was spotted abandoned near Millat Nagar in Andheri.

“The vehicle was taken into custody but the person who drove it is yet to be identified,” said V D Bhoite,senior inspector at D N Nagar Police Station.

The statements of four eyewitness,the injured woman,the driver,a tea stall vendor and the constable,were recorded but nobody could identify the man driving the Hummer,said another policeman probing the matter.

“The suspect appears to be a high profile person whereas the vehicle belongs a businessman Nitin Shenoi. When Shenoi was summoned,he said he was there in Shirdi and would appear before police at the earliest. After Shenoi’s statement,things would be clear,” said the cop. Further probe is on.
