The Haryana government on Wednesday put on hold land acquisition in Rewari district till two separate committees one each from the governments and farmers side submit reports in this regard.
The decision was taken during a meeting held between Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and representatives of the panchayats of 21 villages of the district. The six-hour-long meeting,which was held at Haryana Bhawan in New Delhi,decided that the two committees comprising 11 members each from the state government and farmers side will hold a series of meetings and decide whether land in Rewari will be acquired or not.
While state Industries Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala will head the government committee,which will also have Health Minister Rao Narender Singh and other officials as its members,the farmers will decide their 11 committee members. The farmers committee will also deliberate with the state government committee,following which,a report will submitted to the chief minister.
It was also decided that a retired Punjab and Haryana High Court judge will probe the clash that took place between farmers and police on July 22.
A clash also took place last week at Asalwas village in Bawal town,where police and protestors clashed,leaving over 50 people injured.
Over 3,500 acres is being acquired for an urban estate.
