The Amritsar Police has booked a relative of the Nawanshahr Congress MLA Guriqbal Kaur for forgery and other sections of the IPC,after he was allegedly found to be travelling in a vehicle with a forged MLA sticker. The case against Parmod Arora, the father-in-law of Kaur’s daughter, was registered on Wednesday after a high level probe was conducted by senior officers of the Punjab Police’s traffic wing in Chandigarh.

Officials at the Vidhan Sabha, where the sticker was sent for verification, reportedly found that the sticker issued under label 135 and allotted to CH 04 P 0414 was “forged” to be used on vehicle number PB 02 BB 2929.

Arora’s vehicle was intercepted by a team of the Amritsar Border Range Police on July 13. Guriqbal Kaur, when contacted, said her relatives had already tendered an apology to the Amritsar Police Commissioner on Wednesday. “I have also scolded my daughter and told her that I am the MLA and not her,” Kaur added. She also said that one of the drivers might have put the forged sticker on the vehicle.

Amritsar Commissioner of Police R P Mittal said that a case of forgery against Arora had been registered,“Arora has been claiming that it was not he who put the sticker on the vehicle. We are verifying his claims.”
