An inspector of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) shops and establishments department was arrested on Monday by the Mumbai unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000. Police identified the suspect as Prakash Gole.

ACB officers said they were approached by a person who runs a plastic-moulding business who alleged that Gole had demanded a bribe from him.

“The complainant said he had started a new business and Gole demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 to give him the requisite clearances. Initial investigations revealed that Gole had asked for a bribe. We laid a trap and nabbed him,” said an officer from the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
