Uttarakhand HC judges who quashed President’s rule

The Uttarakhand High Court severely scolded the Center for four days before quashing President's rule in the state.

The court quashed the order, severely scolding the Centre for the fourth consecutive day, and said the decision to impose President’s Rule “undermines the foundation of federalism” and “breeds cynicism in the hearts of citizens who participate in a democratic system”.

Chief Justice K M Joseph known for his landmark decision on the liquor policy of Uttarakhand, assumed charge as Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court in July 2014.

He enrolled as an advocate in January 1982 in Delhi, and started his practice in civil and writ matter cases. In 1983, he started practising at the Kerala High Court. He was appointed permanent judge of the Kerala High Court in 2004.

He did his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kochi, after which he went to Loyola College, Chennai. He received his law degree from Government Law College, Ernakulam.

Justice V K Bist was elevated as a judge of the Uttarakhand High Court in November 2008.

He enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh in 1984, and practised at the Allahabad High Court. After the creation of the state of Uttarakhand, he shifted to Nainital and practised at the Uttarakhand High Court.

A resident of Uttarakhand, he completed his law degree from Allahabad University.
