The latest trend of Samajwadi Party leaders writing letters hurling allegations at members of the top rung, indicating the growing dissent among them, continued on Thursday with an MLC known to be close to party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav putting up a Facebook post saying that those writing letters were holding their posts solely because of the latter’s “struggles and sacrifices”.
Party MLC Ashu Malik’s post on Facebook said that those giving advice to Mulayam through letters do not even have the capability to get 500 votes in their favour, and that they should resign and get elected by the public before doing so. His post came a day after a Mainpuri MLC and Akhilesh supporter wrote to Mulayam accusing state party president Shivpal Yadav of conspiring against the chief minister and “misleading” the party chief.
Malik’s post also said that the series of letters were affecting the dignity of both Mulayam and Akhilesh. “We all are with the chief minister and entire Samajwadi Parivar is with Netaji. There is no feud or groupism in the family,” it further said.
Calling Mulayam ‘Samajwad ke maseeha’, Malik wrote, “The person, who is insulting Netaji (Mulayam) today, he will certainly insult chief minister in future. No outsider should intervene in any matter related to the family.”
“Hum sab ke paas jo hai woh neta ji ke sangharsh aaur balidanon ka parinaam hai. Is liye neta ji ka apmaan bardhasht nahin kiya jayega (Whatever we have is the result of Netaji’s struggles and sacrifices, therefore any insult to him will not be tolerated),” wrote Malik.
“Yaaad rakhein.. jis ped ki chhaon me hum aaj baithe hain… wah bahut vishal hai.. uski tehaniya bahut mazboot hai.. uske patte bahut harey hain… humein us ped ki kadar karni hai.. uska samman karna hai…us tanawar ped ka naam mananiya Neta ji hao (Remember that the tree under whose shade we sit is massive…its roots are strong…its leaves are very green…we must respect that tree…that tree is Netaji),” said the post.
In his letter sent to Mulayam on Wednesday, Mainpuri MLC Udaiveer Singh had accused Shivpal of expelling seven youth leaders on false grounds. He had also alleged that Shivpal had insulted Akhilesh publicly and Mulayam had given importance to “infamous” (minister) Gayatri Prasad Prajapati over Akhilesh. Udaiveer had demanded that Akhilesh be named party national president with powers to take all decisions related to the party and its election campaign.

On the same day, Akhilesh too had written to Mulayam announcing that he will start his election campaign with ‘Samajwadi Vikas Rath Yatra’ from November 3. The yatra coincides with the party’s silver jubilee celebrations scheduled for November 5, and the CM is likely to miss the latter.
On Sunday, party national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav too had written to Mulayam criticising him for not announcing Akhilesh as the CM face and predicting that Mulayam could be held responsible for the damage caused to the party during elections.
On September 22, SP MLA from Etah Ashish Kumar Yadav had issued a statement in the media, making allegations against Ram Gopal by stating that he was misleading Mulayam and party workers while his own supporters had made a lot of money in the past few years through land grabbing and illegal liquor trafficking. Ashish is a first-time MLA and son of Ramesh Yadav, who is chairman of the state legislative council. On September 20, Mulayam himself had issued a hand-written letter in the media declaring Amar Singh as the party’s national general secretary. Generally, such letters are issued by Ram Gopal.
