As the J&K High court has directed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to close the shopping malls and complexes that don’t have their own car parking facilities, the axe has fallen on a shopping complex owned by J&K’s minister for Sheep and Animal Husbandry Sajjad Gani Lone.
The Srinagar Municipal Corporation has sealed the shopping complex owned by Lone in Srinagar. The complex, situated outside Lone’s Sanat Nagar house in Srinagar, is in the name of his two sons, Imad and Adnan.
“We have, so far, sealed 19 commercial complexes in different parts of the city,” the Enforcement Officer of Srinagar Municipal Corporation Manzoor Ahmad told The Indian Express.” We have sealed a complex at Sanat Nagar which is owned by Imad and Adnan”.

The action against the shopping complexes was initiated after directions from J-K High Court. A division bench of court, comprising of Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magray, last week directed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to act affairs the owners whose shopping complexes and malls don’t have functional car parking facilities.
While the maintenance of a functional car parking facility is mandatory for a shopping complex is Srinagar and the Srinagar Municipal Corporation grants building permission only after owners specify car parking facility in their building plans, more than 45 commercial complexes and shopping malls in Srinagar are without these facilities resulting in car parking on roads that causes frequent traffic jams in the city.
