On Saturday and Sunday, 150 members and volunteers of Jnana Prabodhini, Solapur, divided themselves in groups and stood outside 23 banks to help senior citizens and uneducated people in filling up bank forms.

Sunita Chakot, one of the members, said, “The volunteers mainly included teachers, students, ex-students, staff, members and volunteers associated with Jnana Prabodhini. Though bank staffers are doing their job, the crowd is so much that it is impossible for the bank staff to cater to every customer individually and resolve their queries. There are many people who are either uneducated or too old and thus are unable to fill up the forms on their own. The volunteers and members of Jnana Prabodhini help them.”

The group included a large number of students of Classes 9th and 10th studying at Jnana Prabodhini Prashala in Solapur. The group at each bank consisted of atleast one teacher and three to four students.

Chakot informed that after observing their initiative, many banks have asked them to send volunteers in the coming days too. “Since all the banks and ATMs remained closed on Monday, we are assuming that there will be more crowd on Tuesday and Wednesday. Hence, our volunteers will again visit the 23 banks,” she added.
