India has claimed arresting a Pakistani for launching attack on Indian forces in Kashmir though Islamabad has denied that the attacks were perpetrated by terrorists who had infiltrated from its territory.
Desperate to talk to his family in Pakistan, captured Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Mohammad Naveed Monday not only wrote down their new telephone numbers before the Special Court for NIA but also requested against keeping him in isolation at the high security Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu.
“Janab, mein mar jaunga. Woh mujhe abhi bhi alag rakhte hain (Sir, I will die… They (jail staff) keep me isolated from others even now),” Naveed pleaded, as he and three alleged local associates were produced before special judge Y P Kotwal. Saying that he is brought out in the open only for half-an-hour during the day, he requested the judge to direct jail officials to lodge him with other prisoners.

His request was opposed by the NIA counsel who brought the court’s attention to an earlier compliance report submitted by the jailer, apprehending threat to Naveed’s life if kept with other prisoners.
Naveed also submitted before the court a handwritten application in Urdu, requesting the judge to direct jail officials to get him talk to his family in Pakistan. He gave two telephone numbers that were different from those he had submitted earlier.
The written request from Naveed followed the NIA’s repeated reply to the court that the numbers of his family and friends were not working.
During the last hearing the judge had even asked Naveed whether the numbers he gave were correct. Following his request, the judge directed the Kot Bhalwal jail superintendent to see whether he can get him to talk to his family in Pakistan.
