Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said she was “saddened” over the loss of lives during the violent protests against the killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani.
“Security personnel were told to act calmly. Sad, despite taking all measures, lives were lost during protest,” Mufti said.

Mufti added that incidents where security personnel have acted “harshly” and have used “excess force” will be thoroughly investigated.
The chief minister said that she was quick to react when she learnt that Wani died in an encounter.
“When I got news that Burhan Wani has been killed in an encounter, I ordered curfew anticipating protests so that no life is lost. Security personnel were told to act calmly. It’s sad, despite taking all measures, lives were lost during protest,” she said.
The CM also urged the people to help the government in restoring peace in the state.
“I appeal everyone to help the government to bring back peace and normalcy in the state,” the she said.
