IS ‘sympathiser’ arrest: NIA to take over probe into role of IOC staff

The Centre has directed the NIA to take over the investigation into the role of alleged Islamic State (IS) “member and motivator” Mohammad Sirajuddin, an Indian Oil Corporation employee who was arrested from Jaipur in December last year and is currently in jail.

An officer of the rank of Superintendent of Police has been appointed the Chief Investigating Officer of the case.

Jaipur-based Sirajuddin was arrested by the Rajasthan Police on December 10 last year on the allegation that he was “actively” associated in promoting the IS ideology through the use of online social media forums and allegedly exhorting people to indulge in terrorism and anti-national activities. Sirajuddin hails from Bangalore and was employed in the sales division of the Indian Oil Corporation in Jaipur.
