IPS officer allegedly commits suicide in Chennai

Official sources said Harish has been facing a departmental inquiry that delayed his promotion.

IPS officer N Harish, 32, allegedly committed suicide in Chennai, Thursday morning.

N Harish, a 2009-IPS batch officer was currently posted in Chennai as the assistant commissioner at the state directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption.

Harish, hails from Karnataka, was staying at the IPS Officer’s Mess at Egmore in the city. “After he did not open the door after 10 am Thursday, staff tried to reach him and finally we had to break open the door,” he said.

Official sources said Harish has been facing a departmental inquiry that delayed his promotion. “He was the youngest of his batch in 2009. All his colleagues had been promoted two years ago but his promotion alone was pending due to the inquiry ordered by the then DGP K Ramanujam. We are also verifying reports that he had been suffering from depression,” the officer said.

Earlier he worked as an assistant superintend of police at Kilakarai near Ramanathapuram and Thallakulam near Madurai.
