TARGETING AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, the Congress on Tuesday claimed that credit “for his progress” goes to the party.
Asking party workers not to be afraid of “the man who comes from Hyderabad wearing a skull cap”, AICC chairman of minority department Khurshid Ahmed Syed said: “Today, he asks questions from Congress but forgets that the empire created by his father and him is because of the Congress… Otherwise, he was not even worth opening a dispensary.” Without naming Owaisi, Syed added that he was like a ‘snake’ who was fed milk by the Congress.

Syed, along with state Congress president Nirmal Khatri and other leaders, addressed office-bearers of the minority department during a Holi Milan function at the party headquarters in Lucknow.
Claiming that only Congress had ensured constitutional rights for the Muslims of the country, Syed said: “Forces are busy disturbing harmony… BJP leaders have become mere puppets under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and despite being elected MPs, they have no power to assert their authority.”
Assuring partymen that Congress stands a better chance in the 2017 Assembly polls in UP if it works on the ground, Syed suggested public interactions should be held in Aligarh, Kanpur, Gorakhpur and Moradabad districts next month.
Meanwhile, to spread awareness about UPA’s flagship schemes in the state, Congress has asked each district to start a mass contact campaign from April 1. Each district would either hold marches or chaupals to inform the public about flagship schemes like food security and MGNREGA among others. Khatri said he would be part of the campaign in Ballia on April 5.
