HOURS AFTER Indian Deputy High Commissioner in Islamabad J P Singh was called in by the Pakistan Foreign Ministry to lodge a strong protest against “unprovoked ceasefire violations”, India put the onus on Pakistan, saying there was an exchange of fire connected with “attempted infiltration” on the Pakistani side.
Earlier in the day, the Pakistan Foreign Ministry said in a statement: “The Indian Deputy High Commissioner was called in by the Director General (SA & SAARC) today. A strong protest was lodged against the unprovoked ceasefire violations on 19-20 October 2016, by the Indian occupation forces at the Line of Control in Karela Sector, which resulted in martyrdom of one civilian, Abdul Rehman, son of Gul Zaman, age 28 years…”
MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup Thursday said, “…My understanding is that there was an exchange of fire connected with attempted infiltration on the Pakistani side.”
