(Express Archives) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha Monday announced that Union Home Minister Amit Shah, DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region) Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and chief ministers and Governors of Northeastern states would join the North Eastern Council (NEC) plenary session to be held in Agartala on August 31 and September 1.
CM Saha said, “This is a matter of pride for us. Earlier, we used to go to Shillong, Assam. Now, for the first time, the NEC meeting is going to happen here on August 31 and September 1.”

Formed under the North-Eastern Council Act, 1971, the NEC is a regional planning and statutory advisory body for the eight northeastern states including Sikkim. The organisation is headquartered in Shillong.
